While I’m writing this words, the record on the turntable is Ulver, ATGCLVLSSCAP. At first I used my headphones but then I need it to heart it a little bit more loud, so I connected the speaker. While I was doing that I remembered a video about the “correct” setup to enjoy music. I thinks is brave statement, I mean there’s a lot of things to consider. So I’m going to explain this using me as example.
Lets make it easy, the last whisper I said that I just moved out to a new city and to be honest I just bring the essentials, a bed, fridge, couch, records, turntable and of course books. It’s all I need right now and it’s because I haven’t decided if I want to live in here in Guadalajara o Mexico City and even if I stay here in Guadalajara I’m not sure about stay in these house.
The place.
I mentioned the place where I live because every place had his acoustic, every room is a challenge. I think before buying a bunch of electronics and speakers you should analyze your options considering the space you have. Of course you can buy basic stuff and little by little upgrade your gear and probably some of that gear will be obsolete in a couple of years. Also I read that acoustic panels can help you to solve sound problems in a room but again what’s size is your room? What problem you need to solve?
The budget.
Probably everything I said before will be useless if you don’t have the money. Getting in to audiophile live is expensive. You need to invest in equipment if you really want to enjoy your music in high quality sound. Speakers, headphones, DACs, cables… you name it there’s is a lot. Also you have to choose between digital or analog. Depending on your decision the path is completely different.
In my case I’m getting in to analog with the records, but to be honest I’m not yet pushing to hard to get more equipment. Right now as I said, I haven’t decided where I want to live, for me is important because I will understand what kind of speakers I need. For example; if I improve the needle of my turntable, I will need a good pair of speakers so I can really listen the quality of the needle.
As you can see there’s a lot of variations to consider. But, at the end of the day is all about the money.
Here and there.
Also I think you should add your lifestyle. In my case, sometimes I travel a lot and also I’m an amateur photographer, so I try to get lost and discover new places. Which means sometimes im not in home for months. These makes me look good quality headphones to enjoy my music on the road, so is digital. As you can see there’s periods of time that’s I don’t use my turntable. Here is one more reason for me not to get a lot into sound yet.
Listen to yourself
The propuse of this Whisper is to nerd about your sound in your own conditions. It’s ok to search and see product review. But if you read; “The Best setup for your turntable.” Or “The Best setup for your music room.” Run, you know your needs and most important, you know how you like to enjoy your music. Perhaps it’s sound romantic but it’s the true.
