Well I never imagine that move out to a new city it’ll be so mentally tired. So I used to lived in Mexico City and now I’m in Guadalajara. I been here for 3 months and I still feel like a tourist and it’s ok, because I want to explore and discover new places, mainly music place. Record stores, venues, bars everything I can find it will be exited.
Talking about new places, a couple of weeks ago I found a antique market. It’s was full with clothes, furniture, old coins, you name it and of course records. The market is between two streets and is only on Sunday, so it’s crowded.
It’s funny how something old can feel so new, refreshing and unique. During my walk in the market I stop to appreciate and old record player.
You need to turn 6 times the crank to play one song, at that time only have a song for each side. It’s always exited to see how music evolved and how we change the way to enjoy. If you ask me music evolve to be more portable and compact, if you see this all record player it established an statement, something like “I love music and this the way a enjoy it, deal with it”.
I stoped in the first market stall full of records that I saw, it was pack with Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Camel, Pink Floyd, Judas Priest you named it.of course it was classified and the psychedelic section was stunning.
For some reason the first record that call my attention was Camel, and reason is because the cover had write the name Pat and behind had a couple of short reviews in some of the songs.
As soon as I saw it it make thinking how many places the record had traveled, I mean it’s a UK second pressing in 1974, it’s been around the world 48 years, and I least I know that Patt took the time to wrote notes about the tracks. That’s the reason I decided to bought it, there is a story in every groove and sleeves. I sure that Pat is not the only one who enjoy the record.
Now I really enjoy the record, there is a lot of sounds and for moments looks like a bit of improvisation. Sometimes this rock sound psychedelic with Caribbean notes. This kind of record is for the one who enjoy instrumental performance, the vocals have a small part on the construction of the music.
Enjoy it with your headphones and beer it will be the perfect combination. That’s it for this night, i just want to said; this record represents my new beginning of a life in Guadalajara, I’m not sure how long will be here but it’s a new world full of possibilities. I’m excited to discover new music and place to enjoy it.
