Right now my life is full of changes and I like it because it’s constantly challenging me. Minute after minute I have to proof myself what I’m capable to do and it’s so damn stimulating.
Mentioned this “changes” To night I want to talk about how I discovered my favorite music genre…Black Metal. But first let me introduce the record for the night.
I pour me a glass of Jack Daniel’s and pick One Tail, One Head record, a band from Norway. This is one of my favorite recent Black Metal bands that in my opinion could have a longer and promising career; a couple of demos, singles, compilation and just one full–length. Remember the question in whisper #1?, well this is my pick.
The style and rhythm in One Tail, One Hail is stunning, it’s follows of course the traditional Norwegian Black Metal, but they manage to add dynamisms in the riffs and the execution is outstanding, the bass, drums and vocals are remarkable. One thing that I find more challenging in Black Metal is the vocals, it could give the total acceptance from the public or a mayor failed. We talk about dynamisms, and this record the instruments have an extremely defined personality, it’s not just the same sound and make it HEAVY, because in certain point it will be boring. The Splendour of The Trident Tyger is the perfect example, in some point the bass have a short solo which a loud to create suspense in the song, adding different elements in the atmosphere that create a new rhythm and at the end they come back just to deliver the song to an end.
That’s the reason One Tail, One Head is so refreshing, their sound is bold and without hesitation they perform true and raw Black Metal.
Now, Black Metal is a constant in my life since high school. The first song I ever heard was In League with Satan from Venom but perform by Carpathian Forest. It completely blow my mind, I mean my most brutal band at that time was Cannibal Corpse, but Black Metal have something more mysterious and magic.
So I started listened bands like Nattefrost, Lifelover, Darkthrone and more. But, after this cover I started a journey to bought everything I could found from Carpathian Forest. I was obsessed with the magic, raw and forbidden sound.
One day searching on the internet I found a 7’ record signed by Nattefrost, my first thought was. I don’t have turntable! Then was like, what the fuck! and I bought it. I pick it near a subway station with some guy, These person turn a close friend with almost 10 years of friendship.
So yes, my record collection started with Black Metal and my journey in to the this music genre just begun. Bands like Marduk, Mayhem, Watain, Darkthrone and more walk with me.
Black metal change my life forever not only give me a new sound in my head but also it’s the beginning of my passion to collect records and years later The Howll will born.
