Since the afternoon I already knew which record I will play. Heart Under by Just Mustard. To be honest this record arrive sooner that I expected. So it was a warm and nice surprise.
I was getting ready for the night when suddenly it started to rain. I took a few moments to enjoy the music perform by the rain hitting the window and to smelled the wet rain which a few moths ago I discovered that the compound that produce that smell it’s call geosmin. Little by little the night started to felt colder, so I grabbed my favorite hoodie took my headphones and push the start bottom.
Just Mustard surprise me with a fantastic balance between chaos and peace. In the melodies you find a mix of electronic and raw rock and in the voice you found a beautiful and peaceful sound. The base line have some post-punk influences. For me Heart Under is the balance between heaven and hell. The cover is a painting by Graham Dean called In the water waiting. These gave me the perception that this record is like the water, in the surface everything looks calm but under it’s a crazy world.
The record include and insert with the lyrics and photographs during the recording sessions. The photos got me thinking two things. The first one is about the creativity, frustration and emotions liberated during the recordings. And also the amount of music and lyrics that did not make it to the final cut. This last comment take me to the second thought. How many bands, music and lyrics didn’t make it out of the paper or the rehearsal room? Imagine a group of friends practicing and creating music but some reason the project was drop. Maybe the next hit is a tape in a box in the basement of and old house. I can’t imagine the amount of music that never saw the sun. Music is always out there, waiting to be discover and ready to inspired to someone.
I have two questions for you; Did you know a band that only released one record that could change the music industry but for some reason it didn’t succeed? Or did you drop a music project?
End of whisper #1…
